LIMITS OF COLOMBIA

 

The land borders were the first defined by the country to establish the dimension of our territory, in this process that took more than a hundred years, the international limits with the neighboring republics were determined: Brazil, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Venezuela.

This work was initiated by the former "Office of Longitudes" of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which later gave rise to the Agustín Codazzi Geographic Institute.

In determining the limits of the Republic, both natural accidents and imaginary lines are used. The natural borders or arcifinias are divided into water courses or sources, water divorces or dividers, while the imaginary borders correspond to geodesic lines, which in turn are divided into parallels and geographic meridians and lines with directions other than those indicated. by the cardinal points.
